Getting lash extensions for the first time can feel exciting and a little uncertain. What does the process actually involve? Will it hurt? How should you prepare? At LASHTOUCH in Midtown Manhattan, we welcome first-time clients every day — and we want you to feel completely comfortable before, during, and after your appointment.
Before Your Appointment
Choose Your Style
You do not need to know exactly what you want before you arrive — that is what the consultation is for. But it helps to have a general idea:
- Natural look: Classic extensions or a lighter set like Secret Touch (50 lashes/eye)
- Fuller look: Full Touch (80 lashes/eye) or Extra Full Touch (100 lashes/eye)
- Dramatic look: Volume sets with 2D or 3D fans (240–360 lashes/eye)
How to Prepare
- Arrive with clean, makeup-free eyes — no mascara, eyeliner, or eye cream
- Avoid caffeine right before if you tend to get jittery (you will need to keep your eyes closed)
- Remove contact lenses before your appointment
- Feel free to bring earbuds — many clients listen to music or podcasts during the service
What Happens During Your Appointment
Step 1: Consultation
Your lash stylist will discuss the look you want, assess your natural lashes, and recommend the best extension type, curl, and length for your eye shape. This is the time to ask questions and share any concerns — especially if you have sensitive eyes.
Step 2: Preparation
You will lie down comfortably on a premium electric bed in your own fully private room. Protective under-eye patches are placed to isolate your lower lashes, and your eyes remain closed throughout the entire service.

Step 3: Application
Using precision tweezers, your stylist isolates each natural lash and bonds an extension to it — one at a time. The process is meticulous, gentle, and completely painless. Most clients fall asleep.
If you chose LED Gel extensions, a controlled LED light (400–430 nm visible light, not UV) cures each bond instantly. This means minimal fumes, no extended drying time, and a more comfortable experience — especially for sensitive eyes.
Step 4: Final Review
Once all extensions are placed, your stylist checks symmetry, alignment, and comfort. You will see the results immediately — and yes, the difference is dramatic even with a natural set.
How Long Does It Take?
Appointment times vary by set:
- Secret Touch (50 lashes/eye): 50 min to 1 hr
- Full Touch (80 lashes/eye): 1 hr to 1 hr 15 min
- Volume sets: 1 hr 15 min to 1 hr 45 min
Does It Hurt?
No. Lash extensions are applied to your existing lashes, not your skin. There are no needles, no heat, and no pain. The process is so gentle that most first-time clients are surprised by how relaxing it is.
If you have sensitive eyes, LED Gel extensions are specifically designed to minimize fumes and irritation. LASHTOUCH was the first salon in New York to offer LED Gel Eyelash Extensions, with over 9,000 treatments completed.
