You just got a beautiful set of lash extensions at LASHTOUCH — now what? Proper aftercare is the single most important factor in how long your lashes last and how good they continue to look. Whether you chose Classic, Volume, or LED Gel extensions, these guidelines will help you get the most out of every set.
The First 24 Hours: The Critical Window
The first day after your appointment is when the adhesive fully sets. For traditional (Classic and Volume) extensions, this means avoiding water, steam, and heavy eye makeup for a full 24 hours. This allows the cyanoacrylate adhesive to polymerize completely.
For LED Gel extensions, the adhesive is cured instantly with controlled LED light during your appointment, so the bond is secure from the moment you leave. However, proper care during the first 24 hours still helps maximize long-term retention.
Daily Aftercare Essentials
1. Cleanse Your Lashes Daily
This is the most overlooked step — and the most important. Gently cleanse your lash line every day with an oil-free, lash-safe cleanser. Buildup of oils, makeup residue, and dead skin weakens the adhesive bond over time.
Use a soft cleansing brush and pat (never rub) to clean between and around the extensions.
2. Avoid Oil-Based Products Near the Eyes
Oil breaks down lash adhesive. Check your makeup remover, moisturizer, sunscreen, and even your shampoo — if any of these contain oil and come in contact with your lash line, retention will suffer.
Note: LED Gel adhesive is more resistant to oils than traditional glue, but oil-free products are still recommended for best results.
3. Do Not Rub, Pull, or Pick
Avoid rubbing your eyes or pulling at your extensions. This can damage both the extensions and your natural lashes. If a lash feels loose, leave it alone — it will shed naturally with your lash cycle, or your stylist can address it at your next touch-up.
4. Brush Gently Each Morning
Use a clean spoolie brush to gently comb through your lashes each morning. This keeps them aligned, separated, and looking their best. Brush from the middle to the tips — never from the base.
5. Sleep on Your Back When Possible
Side and stomach sleeping can cause lashes to press against your pillow, leading to premature shedding or misalignment. A silk or satin pillowcase reduces friction if you cannot avoid sleeping on your side.

What to Avoid
| Avoid | Why |
|---|---|
| Waterproof mascara | Requires oil-based remover, weakens bond |
| Eyelash curlers | Can break extensions and damage natural lashes |
| Steam and saunas | Excessive heat and moisture loosen adhesive |
| Direct water pressure | Strong shower stream can shift extensions |
| Cotton pads near eyes | Fibers snag on extensions |
When to Schedule Touch-Ups
Natural lashes grow and shed on a cycle of approximately 6 to 8 weeks. As your natural lashes shed, the extensions attached to them fall off too. This is completely normal.
At LASHTOUCH, we recommend touch-ups every 2 to 4 weeks depending on your natural lash cycle and how full you want your set to remain:
- 2-week touch-up: Maintains maximum fullness. Ideal for events or clients who prefer a consistently full look.
- 3-week touch-up: The most popular interval. Keeps lashes looking full and fresh without over-scheduling.
- 4-week touch-up: Works well for clients with slower lash cycles or those who prefer a gradually softer look between appointments.
LED Gel Aftercare: Any Differences?
LED Gel extensions follow the same general aftercare guidelines as traditional extensions. The key differences:
- The bond is fully cured during your appointment — no waiting period for water contact
- LED Gel adhesive offers improved resistance to oils and humidity
- Daily cleansing and gentle handling remain equally important
LASHTOUCH uses a Korean-made, IEC-certified LED Gel system — designed by LASHTOUCH and photobiologically safety tested. We were the first salon in New York to offer this technology, with over 9,000 treatments completed.
